What happens when organizations ask employees to adopt AI, but never create the space for them to learn how to use it?

In this article, I explore one of the assumptions sitting underneath many AI adoption efforts and why access to AI does not automatically translate into adoption.

The conversation moves beyond training, enablement programs, and adoption metrics and into a reality many organizations may not fully understand:

The conditions employees are expected to learn within.

An employee swimming toward AI while a shark-like threat closes in

The work has not disappeared.

The expectations have not changed.

Yet many organizations expect employees to build an entirely new relationship with work.

Learning AI takes time.

Time requires space.

And space is something many employees do not have.

At the center of this article is a simple idea:

Capability and capacity are not the same.
